This is a digital concept design render of a custom show car. It was done for a client who wanted an image of their project before it was completed. I was involved with some design decisions for the modifications to this car. The image was executed using Photoshop and Illustrator.

Sketchbook III (Cars)

These were ideas for possible paintings/illustrations. The car-face sketch is one of the first images I invented that illustrates the idea that an intense interest in cars can define who a person really is. I've used this idea in a number of ways since this sketch(see Carhead painting in my 'Various Paintings' post)
Sketchbook II (The Batman)

Here are some sketches that explore style ideas/imagery for some of the Batman characters. How did I get so obsessed with The Batman? I'm not sure, but I do like the idea that he is the consummate vigilante who doesn't like to follow the rules. He's dark, vampire-like, demonic. He is psychologically flawed, as is most of the characters in his universe.

Various Paintings

Admittedly, I've never been comfortable at painting. There is so much to understand and learn about it, I love the challenge though! Here are three samples showing different approaches I've tried over the years. The first is an Acrylic painting of a caricature of The Batman. Here I used a combination of brushes and some airbrush work to get the results. The second is a book cover illustration assignment using an experimental technique of oil glazes over a sealed charcoal drawing. The third is a straightforward acrylic painting using only two colors, White and Burnt Sienna. This image is an illustration of my alter-ego: Car-Head.
This Present Darkness Illustrations

When I was in art school, I was so taken by the lucid imagery in Frank Peretti's book: This Present Darkness, it became my inspiration for these drawings. I composed each scene based on specific lines of text. I then hired a bodybuilder classmate of mine to pose for each demon/angel for photo reference. I took a lot of liberties and exaggerated the lighting, muscle structure, and poses to achieve the look I wanted. Much of my appreciation for comic book artists & illustrators like Frank Frazetta shows through a bit here. The media is charcoal on 20"x 30" white Strathmore Charcoal paper.
Clothed Life Drawings

These are some samples of clothed figures all done during art school. We had the luxury of having the opportunity to paint/draw models that had access to various costumes and fashion design outfits. One day we'd have a bodybuilder in a full American Indian outfit, the next day we'd have a medieval maiden! Ah, school days......
Nude Life Drawings

These are two of my favorite life drawings. Both were done using charcoal on 18"x24" newsprint paper. I have spent many hours in many drawing sessions attempting to arrive at a level where I feel comfortable with the work I've produced. I have come so far yet still feel I've so far to go! Capturing the human figure is a never ending challenge where the rewards are in the mileage behind the effort.

Hot Rod Pencil Drawings

I got the idea of doing these drawings by noticing(at the time)that while there were lots of cartoony drawings of cars, and lots of tight, realistic paintings of cars, there were no images incorporating both approaches. A series of these were printed up as tee shirt designs on Black tees. Media for these drawings is Prismacolor pencils on 8.5"x11" Black Canson paper.
